Melissa Carraway

Key areas of expertise include a user interface design and development process that embeds human systems integration within systems engineering. My prior experience in graphic design and website development, coupled with an ability to find the heart of user needs, has translated into a talent for creating elegant solutions to complex information visualization problems with a blend of creativity and pragmatism.

I have 20 years of professional experience, the majority of which has focused on the development of elegant, intuitive, and informational user interfaces for DoD and intelligence communities seeking to solve difficult problems by exploring dense and voluminous information. All of my work has focused on understanding, articulating, and responding to the needs of users.

When I am not reading or writing, I love eating, cycling, and spending time with friends and family.

Skills Include

  • Human Factors Research, to include: user research, workflow analysis, heuristic analysis, and experiment design.
  • Visual communications and design of systems, workflow, and displays of dense and complex information. This can include storyboards, low, and high fidelity mockups.
  • Writing.

Misty Hechinger

I have 25 years of professional experience that range from serving as an officer in the U.S. Navy to software development, hydrodynamic and system performance analysis, concept of operations development, and field test conduct and evaluation. I applied this breadth of technical experience to numerous technical projects and acquisition programs relating to nuclear submarines, mine warfare, and unmanned systems and gradually found myself serving as the lead systems engineer for various government projects and studies. My focus has always been the performer, whether it be coworkers, the user of a system that is being developed, or the stakeholder in need of a strategic vision. In my spare time, I love cooking, crafts, and learning new things (i.e., I’m addicted to podcasts).
